MANUAL SET-UP OF THE MODEM
Settings and adjustments for the WiFi and your Giga Connect Box. With these instructions we will show you how to set up bridge mode, turn off WiFi or switch the frequency band.
Setting up bridge mode
Your Giga Connect Box is automatically set to router mode as standard. Follow this procedure to activate bridge mode:
- Connect your PC, smartphone or tablet to your Giga Connect Box’s Internet and enter the following address in the Internet browser: 192.168.0.1.
- Enter the password. You will find it on the bottom of your modem under “Settings password”.
- In the “Modem mode”* menu item, click on “Activate modem mode” and then confirm with “Adopt changes”.
The Giga Connect Box will now be rebooted and come online in bridge mode.
Note:* If the “Modem mode” menu item is not available, you are already using IPv6. If you still want to use bridge mode, then please contact our customer service.
Changing frequency band from 2.4 to 5 GHz
What is a frequency band?
A frequency band refers to a particular frequency range within which signals can be sent. WLAN waves can be transmitted via the two frequency bands 2.4 GHz (GHz = gigahertz) and 5 GHz. These differ in speed and distance.
What is the difference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz?
In short, the 2.4 GHz network radiates further but is therefore slower, while the 5 GHz network is faster but does not reach so far. Generally speaking, however, the 5 GHz network is used less and therefore offers a better connection
Both frequency bands – 2.4 and 5 GHz – are activated at the same time on the Giga Connect Box. The modem selects the better frequency automatically.
Manual switch
It’s easiest to switch the frequency range with the free Connect App.
In the Connect App you can find detailed installation instructions and you are competently guided through optimization of your WiFi.
Do you want to deactivate a frequency band?
Enter 192.168.0.1 in your computer’s Internet browser. You will find the password on the bottom of your modem under Settings password».
On the left, click on Advanced settings -> Wireless -> Wireless signal. Set the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency network to «deactivate». Confirm the changes by clicking on «Adopt changes».
Deactivating the WLAN function in the Modem
You can switch off the Giga Connect Box's Wi-Fi function in the modem's Admin area. Enter the following address in your computer's Internet browser: 192.168.0.1
You will find the password on the bottom of your modem under "Settings password". On the left, click on Advanced settings -> Wireless -> Wireless signal. You can deactivate the Wi-Fi settings by setting both the 2.4 GHz frequency band and the 5 GHz frequency band to "deactivate".
Rebooting the router / UPC Modem in Bridge Mode
If you have connected your computer to the modem using a router but your computer cannot go online, then your router (cable or WLAN router) needs a restart (reboot) so that it renews the IP address.
-Disconnect the router from the power supply for about 30 seconds
-Connect the router to the power supply again
-Wait until the flashing status of the router indicates "ready" (see the router manual for details. Here are the instructions for UPC devices)
Reboot router vs. reset router:
Please note the difference between rebooting the router (= restarting) and resetting it: When it is reset, the router is returned to the factory settings, i.e. any configurations you may have made (such as encryption) are lost.
